What is Christmas?
- Commemoration of the birth of Christ
- Secular holiday
Jesus’ Birth in Scripture
- Prophesied in Old Testament – Genesis 3:15; Micah 5:2; Isaiah 7:14
- A time to praise God – Luke 2:9-14
- Certain “traditional” details absent – day (Luke 2:8), number of wise men (Matthew 2:1), where the wise men saw Jesus (Matthew 2:11)
Religious Observance of Christmas
- No instruction – Acts 15:24
- No example – Philippians 3:17
- No implication
The Observance God Gave Us Relates to Jesus’ Death – Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
Non-Religious Observance of Christmas
- Nothing wrong with observing days – Romans 14:6
- But don’t cause a brother to stumble – 1 Corinthians 8:4ff
